  3. The HP 98628A Data Communications Interface enables your workstation to
  4. communicate with any device that is compatible with standard
  5. asynchronous or HP Data Link data communication protocols. Devices can
  6. include various modems or link adapters, as well as equipment with
  7. standard RS-232-C* or current loop links.

  10. o Asynchronous Serial Communications including RS-232-C (CCITT
  11.   V.28/V.24), RS-449, RS-423, and RS-422
  12. o Distributed System Network/Data Link support for communication to
  13.   HP 1000
  14. o Terminal Emulation software compatibility for communication with
  15.   other computers
  16. o Data formats of 5, 6, 7, or 8 bits/character and 1, 1.5, or 2 stop
  17.   bits
  18. o Selectable odd, even or no parity and fixing parity bit to 0 or 1
  19.    *RS-232-C is a data communication standard established and published
  20. by the Electronic Industries Association (EIA). Copies of the standard

  34.    The 98628A Serial Interface Card can be programmed to interrupt the
  35. computer on the following conditions:
  36.    Async:
  37. o Data or control block available
  38. o Prompt received
  39. o Framing and/or parity error
  40. o Modem line change (DSR, DCD, CTS, RI)
  41. o No activity timeout
  42. o Lost carrier or connection timeout
  43. o End-of-line received
  44. o Break received
  45.    Data Link:
  46. o Data block available
  47. o Space available for new transmission block
  48. o Receive or transmit error
  49. o Modem line change (DSR, DCD, DTS, RI)
  50. o No activity timeout
  51. o Lost carrier or connection timeout
  52.    Buffer Size
  53.    The 98628A card contains the following buffer sizes:
  54.    Async:
  55. o Tx control is 11 blocks of 50 bytes each
  56. o Tx data is 549 bytes
  57. o Rx control is 99 blocks of 7 bytes each
  58. o Rx data is 699 bytes
  59.    FDL:
  60. o Tx control is 11 blocks of 50 bytes each
  61. o Tx data is 549 bytes
  62. o Rx control is 11 blocks of 95 bytes each
  63. o Rx data is 1049 bytes
  64.    Switch Configuration
  65.    The following switches are configurable:
  66.    Async/Data Link:
  67.    Select Code:  The factory setting is 20; valid select codes are 8 to
  68. 31.
  69.    Interrupt Level:  The factory interrupt priority level setting is 3;
  70. valid settings are 3 to 6.
  71.    Async/Data Link:  Selects between Async or Data Link personality;
  72. the factory setting is Asynchronous.
  73.    Note:  The settings listed below are not all switch selectable.
  74. However, all values are selectable through the CONTROL statement.
  75. Values selected through the CONTROL statement override the switch
  76. settings.
  77.    Async:  These settings are active when the ASYNC/DATA LINK switch is
  78. set to its ASYNC position.
  79.    Parity-Bits/Character:  A 2-bit switch selects between the following
  80. Parity-Bits/ Character combinations:  None/8, None/7, Odd/7, Even/7;
  81. the factory setting is Odd/7.
  82.    Hardware Handshake:  A 2-bit switch selects:
  83. o Handshake Off, Non-modem Connection
  84. o Full-duplex, Modem Connection
  85. o Half-duplex, Modem Connection
  86. o Handshake On, Non-modem connection
  87.    The factory setting is Full Duplex, Modem Connection.
  88.    Baud Rate:  A 3-bit switch selects between the following
  89. combinations of baud rates/stops bit settings:  110/2, 150/2, 300/1,
  90. 600/1, 1200/1, 2400/1, 4800/1, 9600/1. The factory setting is 300/1.
  91.    Data Link:
  92.    These settings are active when the ASYNC/DATA LINK switch is set to
  93. its DATA LINK position.
  94.    DID:  A 3-bit switch selects the following value for the 98628's
  95. device address:  @, A, B, C, D, E, F, or G.
  96.    Baud Rate:  A 2-bit switch selects the following baud rates:  300,
  97. 1200, 9600, or 19200.
  98.    Hardware Handshake:  A 2-bit switch selects between:
  99. o Handshake Off, Non-modem Connection
  100. o Full-duplex, Modem Connection
  101. o Half-duplex, Modem Connection
  102. o Handshake On, Non-modem Connection
